BOYS’ INDOOR FOOTBALL HEAT 1: Omagh
Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain held the first Heat of its eagerly awaited 2020 Boys’ Indoor Football competition in Omagh’s superb Station Centre. Seven schools competed in an action-packed day of tremendous football, providing thrills and spills aplenty.
Section ‘A’ contained Sacred Heart P.S. Tattyreagh, Drumlish P.S. and Knocknagor P.S. The Tattyreagh boys were impressive in topping the section with Drumlish claiming the runners-up spot with a crucial win against a brave Knocknagor side who just missed out on qualifying. Tattyreagh and Drumlish therefore made the semi-finals.
Section ‘B’ comprised teams from Tummery P.S; St. Patrick’s P.S. Gortin; Drumduff P.S. and Roscavey P.S. The lads from Drumduff topped their section with the Gortin boys joining them in the semi-finals. Alas for Roscavey and Tummery, qualification was just out of reach despite playing some fabulous football.
In the semi-finals the Section winners proved just too strong for their opponents. Tattyreagh advanced to the heat Final by seeing-off a gallant Gortin. Meanwhile, the other Section winners Drumduff advanced in an 8-goal thriller against a skilful Drumlish.
Drumduff and Tattyreagh gave us an exciting Final. Both teams were determined to do their best and that was exactly what they did in a superb game. Ultimately, the greater scoring threat of Ms. Darcy’s side overcame Master McElholm’s talented Tattyreagh lads – but they can be very proud of their tremendous efforts on the day. Meanwhile, a well-earned Tyrone Indoor Football County Final spot awaits the Drumduff lads in March.
We wish them well. Ádh mór oraibh.
Thanks to our referee Brian McGinn for his expert officiating and to the friendly staff of Omagh Station Centre. Damian Kelly (Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain) ensured the smooth running of the day’s games.
Well done, everyone! Go raibh maith agaibh.
