St. Mary's Ballygawley Triumphs in Thrilling Fifth Heat of Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Tyrone 5-a-side Boys’ Indoor Gaelic Football
Dungannon, March 4, 2025 – The Loughview Centre in Dungannon was abuzz with excitement today as it hosted the fifth heat of the annual Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Tyrone 5-a-side Boys’ Indoor Gaelic Football tournament for primary schools. The event saw six enthusiastic teams compete for glory, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship in a series of thrilling matches.
The participating teams were:
- St. Mary’s Ballygawley
- St. Patrick’s Aughadarragh
- Gaelscoil Aodha Rua
- St. Malachy’s Glencull
- St. Brigid’s Altamuskin
- St. Macartan’s Clogher
From the very first whistle, the competition was fierce, with each team demonstrating remarkable talent and determination. The young athletes, cheered on by their teachers and supporters, played with passion and energy, making for an exhilarating day of indoor Gaelic football.
The final match was a nail-biting affair, with both teams giving their all in a bid to claim victory. The players from St. Patrick’s Aughadarragh put up a valiant fight, showcasing their impressive defensive strategies and quick counter-attacks. However, it was St. Mary’s Ballygawley who emerged victorious, thanks to their relentless offensive play and solid teamwork.
Mr. Donaghy, the proud teacher of the winning team, praised his players for their hard work and dedication. “I’m incredibly proud of the boys. They’ve trained hard and shown great commitment to the sport. Today’s victory is a testament to their effort and teamwork,” he said.
Mrs. Quinn, the teacher of the runner-up team, also commended her players for their outstanding performance. “Our boys played with heart and determination. They gave it their all, and I couldn’t be prouder of their efforts,” she remarked.
The success of the event was a testament to the efforts of the organisers, teachers, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly. Special word of thanks to Mr Canavan from St Malachy’s who organised today’s event.
With the fifth heat now complete, the focus shifts to the upcoming Finals of the tournament in MUSA Cookstown on 12th March , where the remaining teams will continue to battle it out for the coveted title.
