One Wall Handball Blitz
Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain have hosted two excellent One Wall Handball Blitzes for Primary Schools in St. Joseph's College, Coalisland, and in St. Ciaran's College, Ballygawley over the past two days.
Both St. Joseph's and St. Ciaran's launched their One Wall courts in 2010 and considering that the two Colleges now have 9 One Wall Handball courts between them, in areas where there was no previous tradition of the sport, tells of the continued growth and popularity of one wall handball in the schools.
St. Teresa's PS, Loughmacrory, won the Boys' Doubles in St. Ciaran's College with St. Oliver Plunkett's PS, Beragh, taking the runners-up medals. St.Colmcille's PS. Carrickmore, won the Girls' Doubles with St. Teresa's PS, Loughmacrory claiming second place.
In the Blitz at St. Joseph's College, Coalisland, the Girls' Doubles Blitz was won by Edendork Primary School with Aughamullan PS, Clonoe, claiming second place. The Boys' Doubles Blitz at St. Joseph's was won by Edendork Primary School with the Runners-Up spot being filled by Primate Dixon PS, Coalisland.
The events have seen terrific participation and skill from the ten primary schools involved. This excellent One Wall Schools initiative continues to gather pace with many more schools now seeing the inclusion of One Wall Handball throughout Tyrone.
Many thanks to Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain and Secretary/PRO, Eddie Doris, and Director of Games, Niall McQuaid for organising these events. Thanks also to the host schools with Rose-Mary Nelis and Richard Thornton in St. Joseph's College, Coalisland; Maria Curran in St. Ciaran's College and NDO, Darragh Daly, for the continued work in promoting One Wall Handball in Schools and for continued work in the One Wall Schools Initiative.
