‘Indoor Hurling & Camogie’ Heat 2: Loughview
Attention switched to Dungannon’s superb Loughview Centre for Heat 2 and the next instalment of our 2019 ‘Indoor Hurling & Camogie’ competition. Fifteen teams did battle in a series of group matches in both codes.
Participating schools in Camogie included St. Patrick’s P.S. Dungannon, St. Patrick’s P.S. Mullinahoe, Ardboe, Derrylatinee St. Francis’ P.S., Edendork P.S and St. Patrick’s P.S. Donaghmore. These schools played bravely but, despite giving their all, narrowly missed-out on qualifying for the Co. Final in Omagh. Instead, 2 schools seemed to be just a little bit stronger on the day: Múinteoir McDermott’s Gaelscoil Aodha Rua Dún Geannain and Roan P.S. Eglish. Congratulations to both schools on making the county camogie final. The high level of skill displayed by all 7 schools was a joy to behold. Maith sibh!
Meanwhile, the Hurling competition saw 8 schools lock horns in 2 interesting sections of 4. In Section ‘A’ Dungannon and Derrylatinee had hard luck when they missed-out on a semi-final berth by one solitary point. Advancing to the semi-finals were Mrs. Moylan’s Blessed Patrick O Loughran P.S. Castlecaulfield and Master Mone’s Roan P.S. (with a 100% win record).
Section ‘B’ was equally close. St. Patrick’s P.S. Mullinahoe and Edendork fought valiantly but, unfortunately, didn’t do quite enough to qualify. Instead, it was Master Harte’s Donaghmore and Roan P.S. who made the semi-finals.
After two intriguing semi-finals, it was Múinteoir McDermott’s Gaelscoil Aodha Rua Dún Geannain and Master Mone’s Roan P.S. (with a 100% win record again!) who advanced to the Co. Hurling Final. Déjà vu anyone?
A huge word of thanks to Joe McAree who had everything prepared for us as usual. The LED lighting system was like playing in Croke Park under lights! Thanks, also, to Declan Sherlock and Ryan Keenan for officiating so expertly.
We wish all qualifiers the very best of luck for the final. Ádh mór oraibh!
