‘Indoor Hurling & Camogie’ Heat 1: Clonoe
Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain commenced their eagerly awaited series of games for 2019 when the first ‘Indoor Hurling and Camogie’ Heat took place on Tuesday 15 January in Clonoe Community Centre. A total of thirteen enthusiastic teams competed in both codes.
The Hurling competition saw six schools lock horns in 2 groups of 3. Primate Dixon were unlucky to miss out by 1 goal on scoring difference, whilst Gaelscoil Eoghain, Chorra Críche (Cookstown) also narrowly missed out on a semi-final berth by a single point. St. John’s P.S. Kingsisland, Holy Family P.S. Aughamullan, Holy Trinity P.S. Cookstown and St. Patrick’s P.S. Annaghmore all advanced impressively to the semi-finals. Alas, Holy Trinity and Aughamullan came up short against their opponents. Therefore, it is the lads from Annaghmore and Kingsisland who qualify for next week’s Hurling Co. Final in Omagh.
The Camogie tournament had seven teams doing battle in groups of 4 and 3, respectively. The teams from Primate Dixon, Aughamullan and Annaghmore all battled valiantly but, ultimately, in vain. In the semi-finals, St. John’s P.S. and St. Brigid’s P.S. played some wonderful camogie against both Cookstown schools to secure their places in next week’s Co. Final. Ominously, Master Scullion’s Annaghmore hurlers went undefeated on the day, whilst Master O’ Neill’s impressive Kingsisland teams registered an impressive 100% win record in Hurling and Camogie to book their Co. Final place.
We wish the lads from Annaghmore and Kingsisland, and the girls from Brocagh and Kingsisland all the very best next week in Omagh. Ádh mór oraibh.
Thanks to Declan Sherlock for his expert officiating on what was an excellent day’s sport for all concerned.
