Allianz Cumann naBunscol Indoor Hurling Finals
23rd Mar 2023
The Station Centre in Omagh was the venue for today's Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Hurling Finals. St Malachy’s Glencull, St Colmcille's Carrickmore, St. Brigids Altamuskin, St John’s Moy, and holders St Ronan's Recarson had all previously qualified for what was to be a memorable day for all in attendance.
After a series of round-robin matches, in which all boys played fantastically, showing great skill and determination throughout, the semi-finals were decided. The Altamuskin boys narrowly missed-out on a semi-final place, but they certainly did their school and community proud with their performance.
Carrickmore, who finished top, faced off against Glencull in the first semi-final. This was an exciting game, with the Carrickmore boys doing enough to make it through to the final.
The second semi-final was another tight affair between holders Recarson and Moy, but the Moy lads were able to get the vital scores to see them through to the decider.
The final can only be described as a classic. Carrickmore attacked relentlessly but the Moy defence held tight. Moy attacked on the break and looked very dangerous. The determination of both teams was very evident as no team could break the deadlock. As extra time looked a certainty, an amazing last strike from Daniel Hempstal for Carrickmore was enough to claim an emphatic victory over a fantastic Moy team.
St Colmcille's Carrickmore boys will now go forward to represent the county at next week's Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Ulster Finals in Magherafelt.
A big thank you to Tyrone Hurling Development Officer, Damhlaic Rushe, for officiating today and to the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol officers who organised all heats and today's final.
