Allianz Cumann na mBunscoil Hurling Finals 2024

Eire Og hurling field was the setting for this years 2024 Tyrone Hurling Finals. While the sky was overcast, the standard of hurling and the children’s enthusiasm brought the venue alive.

The schools participating were:
St. John’s Moy
St Mary’s Ballygawley
St Malachy’s Glencull
St Ronan’s Recarson
St. Lawerence’s Fintona
St Patrick’s Roan
Blessed Patrick O’Loughran
Castlecaufield
Gael Scoil Aodha Rua
St Colmcilles Carrickmore

The eleven teams were drew from the hat and divided into two sections, where each team played a round robin competition. The top two teams qualifying for a precious semi final spot.

Group A was keenly contested with all teams displaying a wide range of skills and talent. The lads from Moy were unbeaten and topped the Group with Carrickmore St Colmcilles finishing second.

In Group B six teams battled for the top two places. Each school played five games and all the children enjoyed their game time. At the end St. Colmcilles B team topped the group with Recarson in second place.

In the first semi–Final St Colmcilles A and B team competed for the final slot. The boys from year 5 and 6 fought hard but the A team finished on top. Moy played Recarson in the second semi final and after ten minutes hurling the Moy lads came out victorious.

In the final, St. Colmcille’s A had a re match with St John’s Moy. In the first half St Colmcille’s opened the scoring with a great goal from distance. They followed this up with two more points before the interval. Moy opened the scoring with two great points and kept the pressure on the St Colmcille’s team. The second half was end to end with Peadar Rafferty outstanding in goal for St Colmcille’s and preventing a certain score from the very lively Donal Devlin. The game ended with a score line of 1-3 to 0-3 in favour of St Colmcille’s. 

The chair of Ulster Cumann na mBunscol Pat McGivern presented the trophy and medals to the finalists. He praised the hurling from all schools and was amazed at the quality and skill of the players. He paid tribute to all schools present for participating in our annual event.
