Camogie County Tournament 2019
Allianz Cumann na mBunscol All-County Camogie Finals
Fr. Connolly Park in Eglish was the venue for today’s All-County Camogie Finals as 7 schools competed for the prestigious Roan Cup. The wet weather conditions – in contrast to last year’s scorcher - didn’t annoy the girls one little bit.
Section ‘A’ saw St Ronan’s P.S. Recarson, St Colmcille’s P.S. Carrickmore, Gaelscoil Aodha Rua and All Saints’ P.S. Tattysallagh play some exciting camogie, resulting in the Recarson girls qualifying for the semi-finals with a 100% record. Carrickmore joined them in the semis, qualifying in 2nd place.
In Section ‘B’ the girls from Roan St Patrick’s P.S. Eglish finished on top with St Patrick’s P.S. Dungannon in second after being pushed all the way by a determined Our Lady of Lourdes P.S. Greencastle.
In the first semi-final, Recarson and St Patrick’s Dungannon fought bravely as the wet conditions worsened with the Dungannon girls coming out on top following a great game.
In the second semi-final the cup holders, Roan St Patrick’s, were pushed all the way by an excellent Carrickmore team, with the Eglish girls winning by a single score in the end.
The final saw a rematch between the Eglish and Dungannon girls, and what a game it was. After a tight first half, Roan held a slender lead. The talented Dungannon girls then pushed in front in the second half, but, with a minute on the clock, the Roan girls struck with 2 late goals to retain the county title for 2019, and a magnificent back-to-back county triumph.
A fantastic day of camogie with great skills and respect shown by all players. A huge thanks to the county board hurling coaches who refereed on the day along with the volunteers from Eglish Camogie Club. Also, thanks to Eglish GAC for the use of their fantastic facilities and to Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain for supporting the event. Stephen Mone is to be congratulated for organising another wonderful day. Maith thú a mháistir.
