Cabragh Cup 2018
Killeeshil GAA grounds was the venue for the 2018 Cabragh Cup. Master McCreesh (Cabragh principal) had issued invites to local primary schools. As things transpired, 11 schools came to compete for the Senior Cup competition, the Intermediate Shield competition and the Junior Quinn’s Corner Plate competition. The competitions were very competitive and after our league sections and semi finals, the crowd enjoyed three epic finals. In the junior Quinn’s Corner Plate final St. MacCartan's Clogher overcame St. Mary’s Aughnacloy and it was very fitting that Paudge’s nephew lifted the plate for Clogher.
St. Mary’s Cabragh and St.Mary’s Ballygawley served up a classic shield final. The game ebbed and flowed and some very strong performances on both sides. The game looked set for extra time when Odhran Callaghan won it for Cabragh with a great goal. Commiserations to the Ballygawley lads who played brilliantly all day.
Roan St. Patrick’s and St.Joseph’s Galbally had a titanic struggle in the Cup Final with the Galbally lads coming out with a narrow victory.
Master Damian Kelly returned to make the presentations to the teams.
A big thank you to Martin Russell and Jerome McKenna from Killeeshil GAA club who helped to organise the field. To Friends of Cabragh members Nuala Quinn, Ciaran McRory, Grainne McKenna, Keelin McGarland and Sarah Quinn who provided the refreshments. Thank you to all our referees and umpires. Also Master Damian McAnespie who assisted by Michael Quinn kept the day running smoothly.
