Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Camogie Final 2023
The Station Centre in Omagh was the venue for today's Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Camogie Finals. Roan St Patrick's Eglish, St Colmcille's Carrickmore, St Malachy's Glencull, Our Lady of Lourdes Greencastle and holders St Ronan's Recarson had all previously qualified for what was to be a memorable day for all in attendance.
After a series of round-robin matches, in which all girls played fantastically, showing great skill and determination throughout, the semi-finals were decided. The Glencull girls narrowly missed-out on a semi-final place, but they certainly did their school and community proud with their performance.
Greencastle, who finished top, faced off against holders Recarson in the first semi-final. This was a very tight game which could have gone either way, with the Greencastle girls doing enough to make it through to the final.
The second semi-final was another tight affair between Carrickmore and Roan, but the Eglish girls were able to get the vital score to see them through to the decider.
The final can only be described as a classic. Roan burst into an early 3-0 lead, but the determination of the Greencastle girls was very evident as they pulled themselves back into the game, to leave the sides level with 30 seconds remaining on the clock. As extra time looked a certainty, an amazing last second strike from the Eglish girls was enough to claim an emphatic victory over a fantastic Greencastle team.
Roan St Patrick's girls will now go forward to represent the county at next week's Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Ulster Finals in Magherafelt.
A big thank you to Tyrone Hurling Development Officer, Damhlaic Rushe, for officiating today and to the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol officers who organised all heats and today's final.
