Today it was the girls who took centre stage in Loughview Sports Centre in Dungannon in the indoor football heat. Teams from Cabragh, Dungannon, Eglish, Derrylatinee, Moy, Aughnacloy and Edendork took part.
The standard of football was excellent and very evenly balanced. At the end of the first stage of games Roan were top with Moy in second place. 3 teams Dungannon, Derrylatinee and Edendork all finished on the same points and after goal difference came into play, unfortunately Dungannon lost out.
The first semi final pitted Roan against Derrylatinee and what a game we had. It took extra time to decide the outcome and Roan progressed to the final. Moy and Edendork played in the second semi final and after a very close encounter the Edendork girls came out on top.
The final lived up to everyone’s expectations. The Roan girls forged ahead initially only for Edendork to draw the game. We were then treated to a nail biting match of intensity and commitment that went to extra time and eventually to golden goal. Roan carried the day with the decisive score. Well done to Roan and Edendork for a brilliant final. Roan take their place at the county final next week.
