ALLIANZ CUMANN Na mBUNSCOL Tyrone Quiz: 2023
Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain as well as promoting Camogie, Hurling, Handball, rounders and Gaelic Football for boys and girls have organised a series of quiz heats right across the county designed to find our Tyrone Primary schools’ top quizzers.
A great sense of anticipation and excitement was felt in the primary schools who had registered to take part this week and in the five venues who agreed to host the quiz and welcome their neighbouring schools. We would like to thank those five schools for their organisation and warm hospitality.
The format of the quiz saw 60 points up for grabs over 10 rounds of 6 questions. Each venue used the same set of questions. The pupils faced questions on an wide array of subjects – predominantly Irish based – including; Geography; History; Sport; Music and Famous Irish Faces. A number of questions based on the school national curriculum were also asked.
Five of our local schools kindly agreed to act as host for the quiz competition, and we thank them sincerely. They were as follows:
Primate Dixon P.S. Coalisland;
St. Conor’s P.S. Omagh;
Edendork P.S.;
St. Colmcille’s P.S. Carrickmore;
St. Mary’s P.S. Ballygawley.
In order to qualify from the five Tyrone heats to the Ulster Final, schools had to secure a score that would rank them in the top three of the county (from all five heats). The level of scoring across the heats was once again extremely high. We have a lot of brain boxes in our schools.
They must have all been watching Master McGlone on the Chase!
The pupils showed a tremendous level of general knowledge about Ireland and all things Irish and sporting. Indeed, such was the standard of correct answers it soon became apparent, as in previous years, that scores would need to be round the 80% mark to have a chance of finishing in top three.
As things transpired, we had three schools top scored with the same score of 46 out of 60. The teams who recorded this terrific total were St. Patrick’s Primary School Aughadarragh, St Teresa's Loughmacrory (who had to be separated by a tie breaker in their heat) and finaly St Mary's PS Aughnacloy. Well done to all three Tyrone qualifiers.
They will now be taking their schools to the Ulster Final Quiz on Tuesday the 23rd of March 2023 at 11:30am in the Meadow View Inn, Dublin Road, Tirquin, Cavan, H12 W142. Everyone associated with Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain wishes our Tyrone representatives all the very best in their dual quest for the Tyrone Shield – awarded to our county’s highest scoring team in the Ulster Quiz Final and, of course, the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Ulster Primary School Quiz Title 2023.

Ádh mór oraibh!
