GIRLS’ INDOOR FOOTBALL HEAT 7: COOKSTOWN

5th Mar 2019

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain held the seventh of 9 heats of the annual 5-a-side Girls’ Indoor Gaelic Football for primary schools today in Cookstown. A total of 7 local schools competed for the honour of winning this heat and, with it, a coveted place in the Tyrone County Final. The format of the day’s play saw the teams being drawn into two sections – of 4 and 3, respectively.

Section ‘A’ featured schools from St. Patrick's Mullinahoe; St. Peter's Moortown, St. Mary's Pomeroy agus na paisti o Gaelscoil Eoghain.. Local derbies galore! After a titanic struggle and some very close encounters, Gaelscoil Eoghain topped the group with the cailini from Ardboe claiming runners up.

Section ‘B’ contained teams from St. Joseph's Galbally, Holy Trinity Cookstown and St. Patrick's Donaghmore.. Fair play to these girls as they really gave their all in a bid to qualify. After a close fought round of games Donaghmore stood tallest followed by Holy Trinity.

The two semi finals were full of the best attributes of our great gaelic games and Donaghmore and Holy Trinity emerged for the final which was a repeat of the earlier meeting in section B. In the earlier game Donaghmore prevailed but second time round the Cookstown girls ran out winners in a fantastic final.

Our thanks to referee Marty Devlin for his expert officiating, and to Allianz Cumann na mBunscol officer Pat McGivern for co-ordinating the day’s matches.

That’s 7 teams through to Co. Final Day in MUSA on 13 March. Ádh mór!
