Annual County Camogie Tournament 2018

24th May 2018

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Camogie County Finals

All roads led to Eglish, amidst the sunshine today, for the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol All-County Camogie Finals in Fr Connolly Park. Roan St Patrick’s Eglish, Derrylatinee St Francis, St Patrick’s Dungannon, St Ronan’s Recarson, St Brigid’s Brocagh and St Colmcille’s Carrickmore all took part in a fantastic competition, on a perfect day for camogie.

After a round-robin scenario, St Ronan’s Recarson finished top of the table and qualified for the final against second placed Roan St Patrick’s Eglish. In a re-run of last year’s final, the Eglish girls just about shaded it to take the Roan Cup home and dethrone last year’s winners. It has been an exceptional year for the Eglish girls who add this county title to their indoor camogie and football titles and the indoor Ulster football title.

The standard of camogie by all schools was outstanding and the future of Tyrone Camogie really looks promising after what was witnessed in Eglish today. A massive thanks to Mrs Leona Gallagher from Eglish Camogie who presented the cup to the Roan St Patrick’s captain Kate Daly and who organised the facilities and referees on the day: Casey Gallagher, Emma Muldoon and Aisling Burn. Huge thanks also to Eglish GAC for the use of their fantastic facilities also.

A number of schools also took their hurlers with them today to take part in a go-games hurling blitz supervised by Mr Muldoon (St Patrick’s Dungannon) and Mr O’Neill (St Colmcille’s Carrickmore). Many thanks to all the boys who took part in this celebration of hurling. Overall, this was a wonderful day in more ways than one!
